Reciprocating Saw Blades

Reciprocating saws are machines in which the cutting action is achieved by a push-and-pull motion of the blade. Blades suitable for these machines can cut through wood, plastic or metal and are made from High-speed steel (HSS) or High-carbon steel (HCS). These materials guarantee a high wearing resistance and hardness.
How to find an ideal reciprocating saw blade
The number of teeth per inch (TPI) along with width and depth of space between the teeth determines the material the blade can cut. High number TPI blades are ideal for cutting metal due to its smooth and slow cut. The low number TPI blades deliver faster and rougher cut that is ideal for plastic and wood. Regarding width and length of the blade, the wider blades are more bending and wobbling resistant. Longer blades are able to cut deeper. Short blades with tapered backs are best suited for plunge-cutting jobs. Also, important is the hardness of the blade. HCS blades have a good wear resistance but are unable to hold an edge at elevated temperatures. HSS blades due to its internal structure can stay sharp 10 times longer than typical HCS steel made blades. Bi-metal blades are made of mixed and are an ideal choice between HCS and HSS blades.
