The magnetic encoder IC range from Avago Technologies consists of contactless 10-bit to 16-bit programmable magnetic rotary encoders. They offer an internal voltage regulator and precise angular measurements throughout a full turn of 360°. A simple two-pole magnet is able to measure the angle by rotating it over the centre of the chip, positioned above or below the IC. The Avago magnetic rotary encoder IC is a system-on-chip (SoC), combining analog front end, digital signal processing and integrated Hall elements in a single device. A power-down mode is also available for the magnetic encoders in order to reduce current consumption. The Avago Technologies encoder ICs offer a user-programmable zero position, direction and index pulse width. A variety of possible applications include 3-phase commutation for brushless DC motor, resolver and potentiometer replacement and industrial automation and robotics.
