RS PRO Ratchet Crimping Tool for Bootlace Ferrules
RS PRO Ratchet Crimping Tool – Overview
From RS PRO a durable, reliable and easy to use hand operated crimping tool made from high-quality materials designed to crimp bootlace ferrules. This hand tool consists of two handles with a non-slip ergonomic design for comfortable use, a ratchet mechanism, and a die assembly. The die assembly has just one cavity that is used for the whole of the wire cross section range. The wire end ferrules are fed into the side of the tool and a trapezoidal crimp is produced.
Ratchet Mechanism
The ratchet is pre-set to a specific force and remains locked until the handles of the tool are fully closed and the dies are bottomed. The handles cannot be opened until a full crimping cycle is achieved therefore preventing partial crimps. Once the cycle is complete the handles re-open. The ratchet also enables the operator to repeatedly produce consistent, high-quality crimps. This hand crimp tool also features a ratchet release mechanism which releases the tool handle in the event of obstructions or miscrimps
Features and Benefits:
Durable and easy to use
Ratchet mechanism ensures that full crimp cycle is achieved
Ratchet release mechanism
Ergonomically designed, non-slip handles for comfortable use
One die cavity for entire wire cross section range
The Importance of a High Quality Crimp
When a crimping tool is used on a terminal, two crimps take place at the same time. One is the electrical connection between conductor and terminal. The other is the insulation crimp which provides strain relief against vibration and tension. It is important that the electrical connection is gas-tight without any voids between the wire strands and the terminal. If there any voids present, then corrosion can occur causing resistance and excessive heat which damages the electrical connection. Using a good quality crimping tool will ensure that a full, gas-tight crimp is produced preventing future deterioration of the electrical connection and insulation breakage.
Typical Applications
Crimping tools can be used for a variety of applications:-
Maintenance & repair
Electrical Installations
Cable assemblies
