Temperature control - PID & Temperature control techniques

Most temperature control application require the process temperature to be maintained at a specific target temperature and call for heat as required to maintain the chosen temperature. In the past this may have been performed by a simple on/off thermostat type control method, but modern microprocessor based temperature controllers allow the installer to access more advanced and precise control techniques such as PID.

Advanced temperature control

There is more to temperature control than either basic on/off control, or the more precise PID control methods. Some applications have characteristics or requirements that need more than a single temperature point, or require use of both heating and cooling to maintain the ideal temperature. Monitoring the temperature controlled process is also important. The quicker the status the process can be identified, the quicker any problems that occur can be resolved.
